Big day!
The announcement went up that we're releasing a split 7" with Delicate Steve for Record Store Day (Saturday)! There were only 500 printed, all hand-numbered, and on white vinyl! Side A is our cover of Steve Winwood's "Valerie" ft. Delicate Steve and Side B is Delicate Steve's cover of "The Big Ship" by Brian Eno ft. us!
The only way to get your hands on a copy is to be quick to a participating store (list of stores coming on Friday) or to be VERY quick on our online store which will be the only online store selling the 7"s.
And speaking of our online store, 30% sale on everything today! PARTY TIME.

While this is not a 'goodbye', the time has come for me to leave Ra Ra Riot.
Thank you for the wonderful 6 years-- so many beautiful places visited, with incredible fans & close friends made along the way. I will carry on what I have learned from each and every one of you in future endeavors, whether it be music, becoming a pilot, or the next Iron Chef.
Playing music with Rebecca, Milo, Wes, Mathieu, John, Kenny, Gabriel, and Cameron has provided some very special opportunities in my life, alongside all the talented and amazing bands that have shared the stage with us throughout. I have learned so much from all of you, and most importantly, you have have taught me to strive every day to be a better musician and songwriter.
much love,
Alexandra Lawn

A few nights ago I happened upon some early videos of us playing live; back from when we were a newborn of a band. I began to reminisce about the early days and temporarily got sucked into a black hole of nostalgia. Seeing the early footage was a glowing reminder of how far we've come, and how much we've changed--as a band, and as people.
Back when we first started, the thrill of being allowed to play was enough to keep us going. We functioned week-to-week and were playing every show as if it might have been our final, trying to make the most of it all while it lasted.
Our first priority (and ultimately the reason why we started the band in the first place) was simply "to have fun." This objective acted as a mission statement in the early days. It was our pole star as we navigated our course into our unknown future. It was a fundamental goal that provided a guide for our decision-making process.
When we first formed, none of us could have guessed that we'd still be a band six years and however many hundreds of shows later. Since then we've been through a lot together. We’ve seen the world. We've learned about ourselves. We've learned about each other. We've made a lot of memories that will last a lifetime. And we've shared experiences that cover the extreme ends of the human emotional spectrum. Life. Love. Death. Sometimes it's difficult to keep these things in perspective. We are not the same band that we were six years ago, for we are not the same people. These sorts of changes are only natural of course. They are the result of living life. It would be counterproductive to try to deny change to ourselves or to the band. Nothing lasts forever after all... as they say, with every end is a new beginning.
Allie's decision to leave the band reflects a true sense of self-awareness and is a testament to her continuous quest for contentment. Taking active control over your destiny is a sign of strength, and I am happy for Allie that she is pursuing whatever it is that she is looking for.
It was by chance that Allie and I ended up in a band making music together. Unknowingly at the time, we'd come to effectively alter the course of each other's lives in countless ways. I feel very fortunate that we got to play music together in the first place and I consider myself lucky that we have spent the better part of the last six years doing so. For that, I am grateful.

Our performance from NPR's Mountain Stage is airing all over the country today!
Check out this session! It was one of the cooler things we've done. In the Moog Sound Lab we used all of their gear and played "Oh, La" above and we also did "Boy" which you can find over at Spin

Dear Fans,
Again, thank you so much to everybody who came out during this tour, every show was amazing in it's own way.
We're going to try to reschedule as many of the canceled shows as possible to make it up to you guys. To start, we've rescheduled LA and San Diego:
Wed-Feb-22 Los Angeles, CA El Rey
Thu-Feb-23 San Diego, CA Belly Up
11/21/11
We're very sorry Pittsburgh, we will look into rescheduling immediately, but tonight's show is canceled. Wes just needs more recovery time.
11/16/11
Dear Friends, Fans, and Family,
After visiting a third ENT physician two days ago in Salt Lake City, it was recommended to us that Wes needed to rest his voice for five solid days. Taking the doctor's advice into consideration, we decided to cancel that night's show and the next three (last night in Boulder, CO, tonight in Lincoln, NE, and tomorrow night in Iowa City, IA) to allow for enough time for recovery. We will be playing Chicago andPittsburgh but will have to postpone Madison (TBD) and Harrisburg (already moved the Harrisburg show to Nov. 30th) to allow for proper recovery time - Wes cannot do two shows in a row right now.
Eight days ago we had to cancel our show in Santa Fe, NM. It was the first time in nearly six years that we've had to cancel a show because of lingering health concerns, and frankly we were in uncharted territory. Canceling any show is always a last resort, and we didn't take the decision lightly. At that point we never would have guessed that we would've had to cancel more shows. We assumed that we'd be in the clear within a day or so... Boy, were we wrong! Over the past week, on a daily basis we'd be waiting to hear whether or not we'd be able play a show that night... And with every cancellation our disappointment grew exponentially. Our sincere apologies go out to anyone who feels like we were stringing them along, but the truth is that we ourselves were very much in the dark and tried to keep everyone informed as quickly and as efficiently as possible. We thought we were out of the woods when it came time to play San Francisco on the 11th, but afterwards it was clear that Wes needed more time to rest his voice or else he would run the risk of doing permanent damage to his vocal chords. To paraphrase, as one doctor put it: It's like running on a sprained ankle... You're never going to heal if you don't give your body the chance.
We are truly sorry to everyone who drove out to come to a show only to find out it had been cancelled and to all the venues, promoters and ticket holders. We are looking forward to making up the shows as soon as possible!
P.S. - Delicate Steve & Yellow Ostrich are still playing tonight in Lincoln, NE at the Bourbon Theatre.. the show is 18+ and tickets are $5.. go see them, they are awesome!
11/14/11
Hey everyone in Salt Lake City,
Terribly sorry to have to do this, but after the last two shows Wes' voice was set back again, and we have no other choice then to cancel tonight's show.
